The Dukes Retreat Lonavala (also called by many as the Duke Retreat Lonavala), is another premier Lonavala Resort that offers five star facilities. It is located on the hill and from here you can get a splendid view of the entire Khandala ghats. The Dukes Resort has probably been named after the famous tourist attraction, the Dukes Nose cliff at Lonavala.
(Technically speaking, the Dukes Retreat resort is in Khandala and not Lonavala, however since these two twin hill stations are located very close to each other, this geographical demarcation is not considered by most people, and hence the word Lonavala has become quite a common word to indicate both the twin hill stations).

Apart from the Deluxe and Executive rooms, the Dukes Retreat Lonavala also has 6 spacious cottages having an area of about 620 sq.ft. that have separate Living Room, and Bedroom. The Cottages at Dukes resort also give a beautiful view of the Khandala hills and valley, and also their is a nice balcony overlooking the garden.

About Dukes Nose Lonavala:
The Dukes Nose is a famous high cliff, located near Lonavala. It has a staggering height of 800 ft (around 250m). The popular local name for this cliff is Nagphani (Called so because the shape of the cliff resembles a Cobra snake with its raised hood, Nag=Cobra, Phani=Hood).
Later during the British regime the officers thought the shape of the cliff looked like the nose of the then Duke of Wellington, and hence the cliff started to be known as Duke's nose.
Trekkers like to trek over to the Dukes nose at Lonavala, and the cliff is also ideal for adventure sport activities like rock climbing, rappling and valley crossing.-
